Palestinian workers paint leather and putting pieces out to dry as part of the finish process of leather tanning in a small factory to sell it to manufacture of shoes, in the West Bank city of Hebron on October 27, 2021. Tanning consists of the hides being soaked, then in order to eliminate the salt in a solution of lime and water to soften the hair and eliminate them using a machine, then the residues are removed by hand with a blunt knife. The tanning is threatened with extinction due to import from outside Palestine and suffers from many problems because of its difficulty, as well as because of Israel’s prohibition of introducing many materials used in this craft, in addition to the difficulty of communication between the West Bank and Gaza.
