Palestinians visit archaeological al-Ghussein house after it has been restored by Goethe-Institut, in Gaza city on July 2021. It is the former house of the Al-Ghussein family, which was built around 1800. The British Consul used to live in the house with his family during the British Mandate over Palestine, local sources said. Since the beginning of 2020, the Goethe-Institut, in cooperation with the two partner institutions RIWAQ and Ewan restored the house. There are many historical buildings in the Gaza Strip, some of which date back to the Mamluk and Ottoman era. Most of them are located in the old historical neighborhoods of Gaza City. Despite the economic, social and political crises in the region, these buildings reinforce the elements of identity and continuity, but they are threatened with collapse or demolition.
