Egyptian workers and bulldozers sent from Egypt help to remove the rubble of Shorouq tower destroyed by Israeli air strikes last month in Gaza City on June 10, 2021.  After brokering a ceasefire between the Israelis and Hamas movement that garnered Egypt international diplomatic clout, Cairo is now banking on a $500 million reconstruction project to shore up its regional political influence. Last month, Egypt pledged half a billion dollars to rebuild the blockaded Palestinian enclave, which was bombarded by Israel for 11 days during heavy fighting with Hamas which ended with an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire on May 21.
